In preparation of MONOment, a live show at MONO Lisboa, Charli Tapp produced a video piece entitled “I’d do it all again” in which he gives the viewer his perspective on the decay of hardware in music composition. Vehemently opposed to mute computers facing the audience, yet uninterested in the production involved with modular synths, Tapp’s hybrid travel kit setup, while reminiscent of a more sophisticated system, produces music with barebone electronics, a modified teapot, and a maze of cables.
The video aims to deconstruct the process of electronic music for the viewer, allowing access to visual keys to comprehend, and listen, with a fresh perspective.
Playfully playing off the aesthetic of modular synths, Modular Makeshift carries a child-like approach to mimicry not as a form of inferior production; but as a getaway to empowerment
